KIL

To be honest, it's been a while since Malaysian's people served a decent film like Kil. The last time I'd remember, from the late's Yasmin Ahmad, and grateful to her. And now in 2013, we're bless with this beautiful film entitled KIL by Nik Amir Mustapha.

KIL was truly a brilliant way of reformat our cinema MY's films thinking w/ such mainstream theme and sorta-kinda cliche poor choice of story like; Rempit, gangster, bohsia, racing car, etc and of course funny ghost story w/ same element. Thoughts, many of us didn't want those pieces, those mainstream choice just a way of box-office market, the way to sell the film ? But, it's enough ?. oh, back to KIL,

KIL has wonderful potent story but in such complex show by the main cast; Redza Minhat and Cristina Suzanne. The screenwriter to be thanks, w/ the story come the life of subplot, the flow it's captures the dilemmas facing by Minhat's characters, makes me eager until end. Dialog may yet cliche, but still more refocused in real-life drama, the more what people actually do say and do in daily life. Cinematography, was truly capture my eyes, it's beautiful, indeed memorable like the main cast and big applause for supporting cast.

The most memorable and meaningful, was the scene where Akil and Zara in cinema, show "Kil menonton Kil didalam Kil" Mostly, literal, like people who still stuck in stereotype mainstream theme.

So, that's it. Apologies for bad Grammar. But I'do appreciate KIL's film. Thank you for makes me watch Malaysian film once again. Kil, worth watching!

Angels & Demons, the Half-Blood Prince and G.I. Joe

A night before Hari Raya AidilAdha. (btw, Selamat Hari Raya AidilAdha from Iszaham). My friend from Singapore (actually He is Malaysian BUT work there, so he Malaysia Citizen) bought me a 2-disc extended edition Angels & Demons, a film adaptation of Dan Brown's novel by the same name. It is the sequel to The Da Vinci Code, even though the novel Angels & Demons was published first and takes place before the novel The Da Vinci Code. The DVD cost around 32.90 dollars.

The next days. Probably around 0600 pm I went to Jusco at Perda. I bought another two DVD. First, a 2-Disc Special Edition Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, a fantasy-adventure film based on the novel of the same name by J. K. Rowling. It is the sixth film in the Harry Potter film series.

Second, a 1-Disc G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, a live-action film adaptation of the G.I. Joe toy franchise, with particular inspiration on the comic book G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero. The film is directed by Stephen Sommers.

    Iszaham thought:
  • Angels & Demons:
I love thriller movie but the only thing that helped this movie was the casting: Tom Hanks, Ewan McGregor, Ayelet Zurer, and Stellan Skarsgård. With talent like this, it's hard for the performances to be too awful. But when you have a story that doesn't make sense but tries to engage the viewer with plot twists that anyone can see a mile away, there is only so much a good actor can do.

  • Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince:
For now, though, Prince treats viewers to superb effects work, longer running time, haunting art direction, great dollops of humor and emotion, and great casting. British actor who in J.K Rowling's Harry Potter franchise was brilliant in interpreted their visionary character.

  • G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra:
G.I. Joe was not reported to be a very good movie at all. I must admit I wasn't excited when bought the DVD. Honestly I thought, the acting in this movie is terrible, the dialoge is laughable, and I've seen better special effects before in TV made-movies. I could have cared less about what happened to any of the characters as the movie just jumps straight into action and doesn't explain a thing. For what is worth, it still worth watching.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Review

      Seen on: July 16th, 2009

The players: Director: David Yates Cast: Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, Jim Broadbent, Helena Bonham Carter, Michael Gambon, Alan Rickman, David Thewlis, Robbie Coltrane, Warwick Davis, Maggie Smith, Timothy Spall, David Thewlis, Julie Walters, David Bradley, Jessie Cave, Frank Dillane, Tom Felton, Matthew Lewis, Evanna Lynch, Helen McCrory, Natalia Tena, Bonnie Wright, Frank Dillane (Teenage Tom Riddle) and Hero Fiennes Tiffin (Young Tom Riddle)

Facts of interest: The sixth installment of the hugely successful boy wizard Harry Potter series adaptation from J.k Rowling book Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince and other reason, Emma Watson.

The plot: In the sixth year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft, and in both wizard and muggle worlds Lord Volemort and his henchmen are increasingly active. With vacancies to fill at Hogwarts, Professor Dumbledor persuades Horace Slughorn, back from retirement to become the potions teacher, while Professor Snape receives long awaited news. Harry Potter, together with Dumbledore, must face treacherous tasks to defeat his evil nemesis.

Iszaham's thoughts: I have to say the sixth installment in the boy wizard saga arrives in theaters a delay than hoped for; it was originally due last fall (due to battle the first installment of Twilight Sage entitled "Twilight" in November 2008) but it worth waiting for because the Half-Blood Prince's arrives just in time to save a summer overstuffed with creatively disappointing sequels and non-sequels movies.

Prologue scene start with the dark cloud changes structure into He Who Must Not Be Named suddenly Death Eater flying around London, destroy the beautiful Bridget and rush to Deagon Ally. The scene was a great touch and a painting alike. It show us the Half-Blood Prince takes the "Potter" series to places deeper and darker than ever before (it's like déjà, remember The Dark Knight the blockbuster success of the 2005 sequel Batman Begins, it was darker except without Harry Potter, Hogwarts, Quidditch, Dark Eater, and Lord Voldemort in the film. Actually, that was worst comparisons.)

I did notice when Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) flirting with a Muggle in London sets before interrupt by Albus Dumbledore (Michael Gambon) who introduces Harry to retired professor Horace Slughorn (Jim Broadbent) as part of a plan to uncover secrets from Voldemort's past. Dumbledore tells Harry he must befriend the new potions teacher at Hogwarts, Professor Slughorn (What? Wait? Slughorn teach potions, what will dear old Professor Snape (Alan Rickman) do? At long last, he has claimed the cursed "defense against the dark arts" class).

This newest installment is tempered, more assured and relaxed. It's the closest the films have come to feeling like we're just hangin' out with our favorite trio Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson (first scene when I saw Emma Watson in the Half-Blood Prince, I'm was speechless, she was so beautiful, elegant, gorgeous definitely cute) and non-the-less Rupert Grint (who brought Ron Weasley brilliantly, I love her famous quotes "Bloody Hell"). It's was hilarious to watch Harry and his friends Ron (Rupert Grint) and Hermione (Emma Watson) are growing up and dealing with hormones racing faster than broomsticks at a Quidditch match. And that's a good thing.

For now, though, Prince treats viewers to superb effects work, longer running time, haunting art direction, great dollops of humor and emotion, and great casting. British actor who in J.K Rowling's Harry Potter franchise was brilliant in interpreted their visionary character.

Already past the point when most film franchises would be wheezing their way toward irrelevancy. The final novel, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, will be adapted into two films in 2010 and 2011 released.

      Syurga Cinta vs The Spirit

Just brought two DVD last week. First DVD was Syurga Cinta a 2009 metrowealth drama-comedy directed by Ahmad Idham. The second DVD was The Spirit, a 2008 American comic book adaptation, written and directed by Frank Miller. The film is based on the newspaper comic strip The Spirit by Will Eisner. OddLot and Lionsgate produced the film.

(Click on the enlarge to view it.)

      • Syurga Cinta:
It's was fun drama romantic movie to watch with family and definitely a great "dakwah" movie, eventhough the movie show a similar "Kiamat Sudah Dekat" story-line still the movie got their own amazing plot and talented actor/actress to keep the movie fun and relevan.

      • The Spirit:
Frank Miller's jazzy The Spirit answers that question with a cocky wink and a grin. The streets of Central City are almost always dark and threatening, but they're watched over by a guardian who used to be a cop named Denny Colt. One of the 2009 year's most refreshingly fun films to watch but the films featured too much talking and not enough action.

      Jangan Pandang Belakang Congkak

      Seen on: June 4, 2009

The players: Director: Ahmad Idham Cast: Mazlan Ahmad, Shaheizy Sam, Cat Farish, Lisa Surihani, Zarina, Dina and Mas Muharni

Facts of interest: Lisa Surihani plays the lead and first antagonist character.

The plot: Three youths who each received a letter from the late Pak Sudir inviting them to his house and they would have to stay at his house for three days straight without touching anything, especially an old congkak.

Iszaham's thoughts: Today is "Jangan Pandang Belakang Congkak" opening day 4th June, 2009. I get the change to watch the new horror comedy produced by Metrowealth this morning 11.30 a.m with company of my friends. "JPBC" is directed by non-other Ahmad Idham (one of my favourite Malaysia's director). "JPBC" is not a sequel installment of "Jangan Pandang Belakang" (2007) and "Congkak" (2008), which previously directed by Ahmad Idham.

"Jangan Pandang Belakang Congkak" tells the story of three youths who each received a letter from the late Pak Sudir inviting them to his house. Upon arrival, they met up with Pak Sudir's helper Mustika and discovered that he was their grandfather and the three of them have the potential to inherit all of his belongings, but under strict circumstances. They would have to stay at his house for three days straight without touching anything, especially an old congkak. On the first night itself, strange things begin to happen.

I think "JPBC" storyline is amazingly will written, it contain the element of humour most of time. "JPBC" sure will capture a number of people's attention with its elements of humour. Before the character of Mazlan Pet Pet (Punai), Shaiheizy Sam (Johan) and Cat Farish (Asmat) changed to "Orang Minyak", "Hantu Raya" and "Toyol", the humour started show-up because each character sing and dance with different and hilarious movement.

I agree with Ahmad Idham who cast Lisa Surihani, to plays a beautiful and facial expressions speech of Mustika. Her bring up Mustika's character to life. Since the beginnig of the story, we can saw how scary and serious expressions speech Lisa Surihani bring to her character. I think she was amazingly brilliant. Besides Lisa Surihani look beautiful in every scene except at the end of the story (because she turn into ghost).

I'm also noticed a newcomer Mas Muharni, who plays Wawa (Cat Farish love interest). She character kind is sweet-honest gadis melayu and I'm totally enjoy watched her, but she still need of much improvement in her acting skill (hoping she act in other movie soon).

Surely I would buy the original dvd "JPBC" when come out in market. For those who haven't watch yet, go your near by cinema and watched this humour and laughter movie of "JPBC".

The Best Thing That Ever Could Have Happened

Last night, was the 100th episode of the Desperate Housewives show in Malaysia. It is the thirteenth episode of the show's fifth season. "The Best Thing That Ever Could Have Happened", is the best episode ever, in my opinion. The storyline was brilliant, and really caught our feeling. Guest starring from Beau Bridges as Eli Scruggs, was brilliant. He make us and Wisteria Lane's resident felt sad. Of course we know how that felt. Just imagine when we lost someone that we really care. For this 100th episode, Mary Alice Young as Brenda Strong is seen in this episode for the first time in the fifth season. Before, we just hear as narrated. Besides, this is the 99th episode narrated by Mary Alice. I think this so far is the best episode from season 5, this is The Best Thing That Ever Could Have Happened in 100th episode. Hope the next week episode is good as last night!

      Dragonball Review

Well, have anybody watch Dragonball Evolution yet? They already show at Malaysia. So I have watch. One thing you should know is Dragonball live-action is not what you guys will expert. Well, it not worth watching at all. Well, who idea to hired James Wong to direct the biggest Japanesse tv/anime/comic of all time.

James Wong only good on direct Final Destination series, I love all his Final Destination series, not doubt about that but this Dragonball Evolution. "Evolution" I don't know what "Evolution" mean in this film. Maybe they just said to make people excited. This cartoon-to-live-action adaptation is a disaster and disappointment.

Talk about the cast, well I agree with Fox to cast Emmy Rossum to play Bulma, I know some people will not agree with me, but I think she play that well. Emma got some pretty unic and she totally talented actress out there. The first scene when Bulma (Emmy Rossum) meet Goku(Justin Chatwin), I though she was good, but a little bit... not Bulma in Dragonball character. I'm a bit disappointed that Goku isn't Goku at all and the film so far, it not like the manga at all.

The CG in DragonBall Evolution, well that I love. The whole idea was brilliant only when Goku (Justin Chatwin) is battling with Master Roshi (Chow Yun-Fat) and his energy flow inadvertently target Bulma (Emmy Rossum). The punch that Goku make (try to make like TV, manga, anime) well it just rubbish. Hate that scene. The martial arts choreography is a little a bit disappointed to me.

This whole movie should put a new title, this movie just have a Dragon Ball title, plot and character name but it could really be a different movies because I don't know see a similar with Dragonball anime or cartoon.

I also send my review to IMDB

      Watchmen Review

      Zack Snyder's Watchmen
Well, I think Zack has doing a great job on making the greatest graphic novel "Watchmen" to the big screen. Eventhough I haven't read the graphic novel yet…( unfortunately Watchmen novel didn't sold here.. quick angry ) but.. It have watch a couple page at Amazon and watch Behind The Scene, where they show the graphic novel and the movie, I thought a was brilliant beautiful. The CGI, image and mask from Watchmen movies was amazing awesome. Wish I can own one.

The movies itself, have given us a new dawn of Superheroes, not as great The Dark Knight (my favourite movies 2008) but it didn't give us the joy of watching superheroes movies and just… just hope that Superheroes lives among us.

My favourite character from graphic novel & movies, it going to The Comedian. I know he a jerk, but he kind of Captain America in a bad way, but he great. I think Jeffery Deab Morgan didn't a great job on it.

One other thing, RORSCHACH mask was brilliant amazing.

Trust me, watchmen is worth watching.
Can't wait when Watchmen dvd released!

      9.5/10
